I can't believe it's only been eight days since Libby's surgery. Not because it's seemed so long, but because she's doing so incredibly well. She had a follow-up echocardiogram and a visit with her cardiologist today and he took her off all medications and said she doesn't need to come back in for one year! I definitely wasn't expecting that. Her heart looks really good. There's still a little narrowing of her left pulmonary artery, but nothing they are too concerned about. They'll just continue to monitor it in the future. Libby seems almost back to normal. She needs Ibuprofen once in awhile for pain, but not too often. She seems really happy to be home. She's talking non-stop, laughing and playing with her brothers and the kitty. Looking back I think the worst part of the process was the breathing tube. After she woke up from surgery it was tough to see her so upset about having that in her mouth. Fortunately she got it out the day after. Seeing her get her chest tubes out was bad too. It was obviously painful, but at least it was quick. We're so thankful for all the people who prayed for us and for the excellent care Libby got in the hospital. It was so obvious that God had his hand on Libby the entire time. She was very calm for the most part and seemed to handle on the medical intervention without much fear. She's still not a fan of hospitals/doctors in general, but I think she is beginning to realize that not everything hurts. As for the recovery process we just have to wait 5 more weeks before we can pick her up under her armpits. This is proving to be really annoying because she wants to be picked up a lot and she's kind of big to be scooped up, but we're making it work and it's better than doing it the wrong way and rebreaking her sternum.
Glad everything went well, and that is great news about a whole year between visits! Must be hard to resist picking her up, though.
