Today I had a 3 hour phone conference with our travel coordinator and the other families in our travel group. I was super excited to find out more about our itinerary and what we need to do before we travel. I found out that we'll probably be leaving for China on Sept. 9th and returning on the 25th. It seems crazy to me that after almost 3 years things are now moving so quickly. I feel like there's so much we need to do before we travel overseas. I want to get the house completely cleaned and organized, get some meals in the freezer for while we're away, get at least 3 weeks ahead in Josiah's homeschooling and of course, get Mei Mei's room ready for her.
I am so glad that we chose A Helping Hand adoption agency. I've been so impressed with how organized they are and how they seem to have the travel process down to a science. There is also a separate office in China so they are available to help us every step of the way. Most of all, it's been a blessing to know that as a Christian agency they are praying for us and for Mei Mei. I found out today that there will probably be 5 other couples in our travel group. Two other families are adopting special needs children and 3 of the families are adopting through the traditional program. I can't wait to meet the other families and see their children! I'm so glad that we will have other couples to share this experience with.
As we get ready to travel I have a few prayer requests:
1) Pray that our travel dates don't get moved back. China has many national holidays when the whole country essentially closes down and there are many holidays in October. If we can't get to China in September we probably won't be able to go until late October or early November. We obviously don't want Mei Mei to be in her orphanage any longer than necessary.
2) Pray that God would prepare our little girl for her new family and new home. I'm anticipating that she will have a hard time when we first get her, but I hope that she will adjust to being with us quickly.
3) Pray for Mei Mei's health. We hope that she has already had surgery to repair her congenital heart defect, but if she hasn't we pray that God would keep her safe and healthy until we can get her back to the states and get her surgery. Also pray that there would be no other health problems as a result of her heart defect.
4) Pray for wisdom and strength as we parent this precious gift from God and care for her.
We are just so thankful that God is allowing us to become part of this little girl's life and make her part of our family. We feel truly blessed! Thank you for sharing this journey with us!
